traveling too much for work – with ione turning 2 next month, for every week i’m away, i’m missing out on ~1% of her life. pseudo-science – if we don’t let non-physicians treat patients, and non-engineers build bridges, why would we let non-scientists do science? admittedly, the scientific community desperately needs to get its head out of its ivory tower ass and do a better job of explaining its work to the lay public, but ultimately, this is about knowing what the fuck you’re talking about. fergie – according derek morris of trophy graphics in the latest issue of xlr8r, “when you hear her track, it’s like all the nastiness of l.a. busting a nut in your hair.” eslite books – one of my favorite childhood memories was going to the bookstore every saturday with my mom to pick out new books. while this 24/7 behemoth at the heart of taipei is not your mama’s bookstore, i still totally loved losing myself in floors after floors of chinese books again. james brown – i don’t know anyone in at least the past decade who got worked up to see the man perform, so i don’t really get the feeding frenzy about his death. if you really want to show respect for the man and his music, buy a record. the greatest by cat power – i love the way her fragile melody makes all the tentative and drunken musical gestures sound deliberate and logical. maybe it is all gonna work out and be alright. ione – she doesn’t give a shit if i had a bad day at work, which forces me to stop wallowing and get real. video of “tell me when to go” by e-40 feat. keak da sneak – the beats, the rhymes, and the dancing; restored my faith in hip-hop. thanks tam. this blog – at times, my inconsistent and uneven posting makes me feel very inadequate next to my much, much more prolific colleagues like oliver and noz. but then i thought, what the fuck, this whole thing is suppose to be a soundtrack of my life, and my life just ain’t that regular.
